Here is the story of the family and the car from Shari. AS A YOUTH SHARI WAS GIVEN A HOME WITH THE GERSTMAN FAMILY. THEY INCLUDED FATHER FRANK, MOTHER LOIS, DAUGHTER BARB AND SON LOU. THEY WERE SO VERY GENEROUS AND SHARI STATED MANY TIMES THAT THEY SAVED HER LIFE. ONCE MARRIED TO FRED THE GERTSMANS STILL WERE HER FAMILY. HAVING TWO CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN, THE GERTSMANS WERE THE GRANDPARENTS AND AUNT AND UNCLE.
WHEN BARB AND HARLEY MARRIED IT WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL TIME BUT THE TOPPER WAS WHEN THEY WELCOMED A WONDERFUL LITTLE GUY INTO THE WORLD. EARLY IN HIS LIFE THE LITTLE ONE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN AWFUL DISEASE BUT WAS UNDER CONTROL FOR MANY YEARS……THIS LITTLE GUY WAS SO MUCH JOY FOR ALL. THEN NEXT CAME MOLLY DOLLY AND AGAIN THEY WERE GIVEN ANOTHER FIGHT. BARB WAS SO STRONG AND HER FAITH DEFINITELY GUIDED HER. SHE ALWAYS SAID GOD DOESN’T GIVE U MORE THAN U CAN HANDLE AND BOY THEY HAD THEIR HANDS FULL. OUR FIRST BORN GRANDSON WAS GIVEN THE NAME JUSTIN ALSO SO JUSTIN MO BUBBED HIMSELF “BIG JUSTIN”
FRED CALLED JUSTIN “BUB” AND LOVED THAT LITTLE GUY TO PIECES AND HIS SISTER ALSO WITHOUT QUESTION. HENCE THE DECISION TO ADD FRED’S CAR TO THE BENEFIT FOR THESE CHILDREN.
FRED FOUND THIS CAR ONLINE AFTER LOOKING FOR YEARS BECAUSE YEARS AGO HIS FRIEND HAD ONE AND THEY DROVE AROUND ENDLESS HOURS UNTIL THE DAY THE CAR WAS WRECKED. AFTER FINDING A SIMILAR CAR FRED, GRANDSON LEVI AND FRIEND TATE JUMPED IN THE TRUCK AND DROVE TO FARGO TO PURCHASE THE CAR. NOW DUBBED “FARGO”. FRED, FAMILY AND FRIENDS WORKED ENDLESS HOURS ON FARGO TRYING TO RECREATE THE PAST.
TWO YEARS INTO THE PROJECT FRED WAS LIFE FLIGHTED TO SALT LAKE CITY WITH TWO BRAIN BLEEDS. HE CAME THROUGH THIS WITH FLYING COLORS. BACK TO HIS CAR BUT STRUGGLED WITH MEMORY ISSUES. HE WAS SUCH A TROOPER AND HELL BENT ON FINISHING THIS CAR TO WHAT HIS IDEAS WERE.
FAST FORWARD TO NOVEMBER 29, 2022 WHEN FRED DIAGNOSED WITH ADVANCED PANCREATIC CANCER. ONCE AGAIN THE FIGHT WAS ON……HE HAD REGULAR CALLS FROM BUDDIES WITH WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT BUT MOST OF ALL BIG JUSTIN AND HARLEY. JUSTIN IS SUCH A SOFTIE AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN THAT HE WOULD TEAR UP AND STRUGGLE TO TALK WITH FRED. BUT THEY WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR HIM. FRED’S BATTLE WAS VERY SHORT ALMOST 3 MONTHS AND HIS JOURNEY WAS OVER. LOTS OF BROKEN HEARTS WERE LEFT BEHIND. FRED LEFT HIS BELONGS TO THE CARE OF SHARI, SON SHANE AND GRANDSON JUSTIN. WHILE VISITING ABOUT HARLEY’S DECISION TO THANKLESSLY GIVE UP HIS DREAMS FOR THE CARE OF HIS CHILDREN WE KNEW THAT IS WHERE UNCLE FRED’S CAR WAS NEEDED. FRED WOULD BE PROUD. The proceeds from the car will go to help the Moser Children and their Medical Bills. This is part of the Droog and Moser collection auction on June 3 & 4th, 2022.
